Lineup Selection & Lettering Criteria

Lineup Selection Philosophy
Lineup decisions are made by the coaching staff with the goal of fielding the most competitive team possible while developing all players. The process is designed to be transparent and merit-based. Players are encouraged to earn their position through effort, improvement, and competitive results.

Selection Factors
The following factors are weighted in lineup decisions:
- Competitive results: Tryout scores, challenge match outcomes, and match record during the season carry the most weight.
- Practice performance: Consistency, effort, and improvement shown in daily practice.
- Doubles compatibility: For doubles pairings, chemistry, communication, and complementary playing styles are considered.
- Strategic team needs: In league matches (4S/3D with repeats), the coach may adjust lineup to maximize total team points.
- Attitude & accountability: Coachability, sportsmanship, and adherence to team rules factor into all decisions.
Challenge Match System
Any player on the roster may challenge the player directly above them in the current lineup. This system ensures positions are earned and maintained through competition.
- Challenges must be requested through and approved by Coach Sprecher.
- The challenger plays a best-of-3 set match (10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set).
- The challenger must win to move up. If the challenge fails, no rematch for one week.
- Each player is limited to one challenge per week.
